Visitors also had the chance to see the cats currently resident at Bluebell Ridge who were looking for loving homes. Centre Manager Myra Grove says they received numerous enquiries and reserves on the adorable moggies.

“Cat lovers enjoyed a purrfect afternoon helping to raise a grand total of £1,494.51,” she said.

“We welcomed a fantastic number of visitors and we are extremely grateful to everyone who came along and made the day a great success.

“After hearing numerous weather reports of rain and thunderstorms, we were very thankful to have a lovely day of sunshine!

“I would also like to say a big thank you to the Rye Ukulele Experiment who put on a wonderful performance.”

Bluebell Ridge, at Chown’s Hill, Hastings is owned and operated by the Sussex East and Hastings branch of the RSPCA. It is a separate charity within the national body and is entirely self-financing. Each year the branch has to raise more than £150,000 to keep the cattery open.

Bluebell Ridge holds many fundraising events throughout the year. The next open day will be held on Sunday July 23.

The cattery is open every day, except Thursdays, 11–3pm.
