THIS cheerful photograph shows Lewes under siege from severe flooding in November, 1960. Some 620 homes and scores of offices were flooded.
A disaster fund was opened by the then Mayor.
Our cameraman snapped the 180 bus heading up Malling Street on its wet way to Heathfield, past the Wheatsheaf pub, sadly no longer serving pints.
* The floods of October, 2000, were even worse. But at least the town now has partial flood defences.
