Brighton and Hove Food Partnership opened its kitchen at Community Base on Queen’s Road last month, thanks to funds from Veolia Environmental Trust, Rampion Fund and the People’s Postcode Lottery, with support from the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation. It will offer culinary courses of every kind, with some subsidised courses, as well as workshops for those who simply want to learn something new.

At the opening of the new space, Vic Borrill, director of the food partnership, said: “After a decade dreaming of a central space tailored to our needs, today is like a dream come true. In this kitchen our cookery class leaders will have a fully accessible, purpose-built space and all the equipment they need so we can improve and expand our offering, enabling many more people in Brighton and Hove to learn about food, share food and, above all, to enjoy food.

The partnership had previously run courses from community centres, churches and any other suitable spaces it could find around the city.

The kitchen will operate as a social enterprise, offering courses from local chefs and food experts, as well as providing subsidised courses for the isolated, vulnerable, those suffering from a health condition or struggling on a low-income. To find out more, visit: bhfood.org.uk
