A competition to name the islands at Decoy Pond ran some years ago and the winning suggestions were Reed Retreat for the smallest, Drakes Den for the northern island and Herons Haven for the central island.

Hampden Park councillors have donated £360 for the new signs through the council’s devolved budget scheme following a request from the family of one of the competition winners.

Councillors have also provided £2,000 for new litter and recycling bins across the Hampden Park area, to encourage people to recycle more and keep streets clean.

Elsewhere in Devonshire, councillors awarded £1,050 to help Bourne Primary School pay for a set of textbooks for year five pupils to support their remote learning.

The Haven Primary School was also assisted by Sovereign Harbour councillors with a £1,500 grant towards three new laptops.

These ward councillors also agreed to fund extra seating costing £1,500 for the harbour walkways so that elderly residents, in particular, can take rests when out walking.

Elsewhere, Ratton councillors agreed £2,000 for eight trees to be planted within the ward and £1,400 to brighten up roads with bulb planting.

St Anthony’s councillors have also put forward £250 for a tree in Moy Avenue.

Along with this, in January through the devolved budget scheme councillors in Devonshire, Old Town, Ratton, Langney and Meads approved funds towards water refill stations in their wards as part of a town-wide project to cut down on single-use plastics.
