UpCountry Ltd, which has recently taken over the ownership of the garden centre on Dittons Road and also has a branch in Scaynes Hill in West Sussex, made the application to Wealden District Council.

If passed, the centre would sell and serve alcohol to be consumed on and off site. The site is open seven days a week.

Garden centres are one of the only establishments that have remained open in this third national lockdown as they are classed as essential shops. After being forced to close for the first lockdown last year, they have been open ever since May, including through the second lockdown in November.

Members of the public can comment on the application until March 8.
