Pier stand-up a sell-out

Tomorrow one of the UK’s top comedians and former Hastings resident Jo Brand will take to the stage for a special ne-off pier fundraising gig, and tickets are long gone.

Also billed to appear are Angela Barnes who won BBC Radio 2’s New Comedy Award in 2011, and Quincy, stand-up comedian, presenter, writer, actor and host.

Actress and comedian Doon Mackichan will also be on stage to present the results of the pier poetry competition, to which she says, there has been a great response.

“What’s amazing is there have been some fantastically brilliant responses.

“There are some beautiful poems from people who remember the pier from years ago,” she said.

Reflecting on her own memories of the pier she said: “The Gritti Palace was my favourite place to watch the sunset, and one of the most amazing views was from the ladies loos - floor to ceiling glass looking out to the West Hill.”

Doon is best known for her roles in TV comedies including Smack the Pony and Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge.

She is currently starring in ITV2 sitcom Plebs, set in ancient Rome, and is set to appear as a salon owner in BBC4 sitcom Quick Cuts later this year.
