Sax legend to play at Respond

Legendary saxophonist Trevor Watts will be playing at Respond Academy , in Silchester Mews, St Leonards, tomorrow (Saturday, April 27).

He will be joined by Veryan Weston on piano.

Trevor Watts, 74, is an English jazz and free-improvising saxophonist, originally from York, but now living locally.

In 1965 he and drummer John Stevens formed the Spontaneous Music Ensemble, which became one of the crucibles of British free improvisation

Though identified with the avant-garde, Watts has worked in everything from straight jazz contexts to rock and blues.

He has also focused on blending jazz and African music, notably with the Moiré Music ensemble .

He has toured the world numerous times and he has collaborated with some of the great jazz musicians including Archie Shepp, Steve Lacy, Don Cherry and Jayne Cortez.

Tickets for the event are £6 on the door, and the gig starts at 7.30pm.
