Charity shops reopen in Hove – these are the ones accepting donations

Charity shops were finally able to reopen last week and although some have been working through a backlog of donations, some are ready and waiting for more contributions.

In George Street, Hove, there are several charity shops including branches for Mind, the British Heart Foundation, Chestnut Tree House Hospice, YMCA, Scope and Barnardo's.

All of these charity shops reopened last week with most experiencing some very busy days people headed for the high street now that all non-essential shops have been allowed to reopen. In George Street last week, it was clear lots of people had missed being able to visit charity shops to pick up a bargain and support good causes at the same time. The lockdown has also meant lots of people have been having home clear-outs and have been holding onto donations they might usually have given to charity shops. Some shops have already had a surge in donations and are running low on space.

The British Heart Foundation shop in George Street had to decline donations last week but is now accepting them again, although does not need any dvds or cds. The Chestnut Tree House Hospice shop had a sign outside last week politely declining donations and although it does not need any clothing items, it is now accepting bric-a-brac and electricals.

The YMCA shop does need donations and asked for them to be made on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays. The Scope shop is also happy to take donations and Barnardo's has set up a drop-off area inside for donations, which must be in bags. The Mind charity shop is also keen for donations.

All of the charity shops have Covid-19 safety measures in place, limiting the number in the shops at once and asking people to wear masks and social distance.

The Age UK charity shop in George Street has permanently closed.
