Homage to the masters of music

Two pianists, two grand pianos and one stage combine to pay homage to the great masters at the Assembly Hall, Worthing on Sunday, March 4.

Pianists Yuki Negishi and Louise Andrée-Baril perform with Worthing Symphony Orchestra, conducted by John Gibbons, during the afternoon which features Schubert’s Symphony No 8 (The Unfinished), Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in D minor, Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony.

Spokeswoman Gemma Nethersole said: “Prokofiev’s modernisation of the classical symphony opens the concert and was written during the 1917 Russian Revolution and continues to be celebrated for its vibrant tunes and energy.

“The centrepiece of the concert, Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos, includes a slow movement which strongly recalls Mozart’s works. It will be followed by one of Schubert’s most beloved symphonies which was not heard until 30 years after his death.

“To maximise the thrill of having two grand pianos on stage, Carnival of the Animals allows the two champions of the piano to perform a work which is filled with popular numbers including The Swan and Aquarium.”

Yuki Negishi has performed in over 150 concerts in the UK where she has lived since 2001 and regularly performs about 30 concerts a year internationally. Alongside her performing career, she is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Trinity College of Music in London.

Yuki is joined by Louise Andrée-Baril who is an active soloist and chamber musician and has won both the Matinées Symphoniques de Montréal contest and the Canadian Music Competition.
