Kevin launches new season at Bognor

It’s 342 because you can book the first two show and see the third show – a Christmas entertainment – free of charge.

“Straight From The Heart, the first piece is a very important work for me,”, says Kevin. “It is a play based on a true story, and is full of life-affirming truths, plus good music and songs.

“I wrote it in London five or six years ago. It is a revival, but it has only been performed once – and I have rewritten it a bit.”

Featuring Roger Clayden, Holli Hoffman, and Kevin Short, the show, which will raise money for the British Heart Foundation, is the story of a loving couple’s struggle to cope while coming to terms with a life-changing illness.

“It sounds a bit depressing, but it isn’t,” says Kevin. “It’s based on the true story of my brother who after 20 years being a publican and not looking after himself contracted a heart disease and had to go for a heart bypass. He was such a bullish man that he thought ‘I am not sure I want to go through with this.’ He thought he would rather die naturally when he had to die. He and his wife went through turmoil about it, and he did go in for the operation, but I won’t tell you what happens because that is what the play is about.”

Next up, Rainbow Ride, which will donate to the Rainbow Trust children’s charity, is a truly-musical multi-coloured experience, Kevin promises. A sinful journeyman – played by Kevin - dances through the seven colours to find his virtuous rainbow’s end. The piece also features Claire Lewis and comes with music by Milton Reame-James, the original Cockney Rebel keyboardist.

“It’s a multi-media journey. The ida is to immerse people in each of the individual colours of the rainbow.”

Completing the season – and free to those who attended the first two shows – is Kev’s Kristmas Kracker, a fun collection of comedy, music and song, ranging from music hall to folk and country to rock ‘n’ roll.
