The Haskins Roundstone Garden Centre has teamed up with the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund to promote the ‘Sun Safety in the Garden’ message throughout August.

The campaign will run online and in the centre, highlighting specific gardening sun safety guidelines, and featuring an in-store competition to win a Bellagio Bistro furniture set and Glatz UV parasol.

Dean Ridley, retail operations manager at Haskins, said that gardeners could well be exposed to the sun for more hours in a day than the average sun worshipper, while mowing the lawn, watering the plants or playing with the children.

“When working or playing in the garden, we can all be easily distracted from good sun protection habits. These specific guidelines will enable all the family to enjoy their gardens safely, which is why Haskins are behind this campaign.”

Paul Banwell FRCS (Plast), the lead consultant of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Unit (MASCU) at East Grinstead’s Queen Victoria Hospital and ambassador for the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund has produced the guidelines for the campaign, which can be obtained by visiting the centre or logging onto www.haskins.co.uk

Haskins is also inviting customers to make donations to the fund’s work, carrying out research to find a cure for skin cancer.
