“I have continued my exploration of light in these views of distinctive buildings in Hastings historic Old Town.

“I also use familiar images and shapes of the beach and boats on The Stade as a vehicle for my interest in structure and formal arrangement of space.

“The work continues my theme of sense of place and interest in Hastings, forever reinventing itself through regeneration, social change and development.

“Although my paintings draw upon visual reality rooted in direct observation, by emphasising the horizontal and vertical rhythms of buildings and by simplifying my images, they reach a point of abstraction.

“The paintings nevertheless, remain representational showing recognisable forms and connection with nature through the play of light and shade.”

The gallery is open Monday to Saturday, from 10.30am to 2pm and 6pm to 8pm.
