Town’s emerging artistic talent

Perhaps the next Chapman Brothers may be among the 13 final year Foundation Degree students showcasing their artwork at Sussex Coast College, Hastings.

The Contemporary Crafts Practice students are exhibiting their work at the Station Plaza campus from today (June 21) until Tuesday, June 25.

Sussex Coast College has long been the breeding ground for artistic talent.

The Turner Prize-nominated Chapman Brothers, who are known for their controversial artwork, are ex-students of the college.

Hastings seems to regularly produce creative people with a quirky world view, and this year’s crop of graduates is no exception.

The students showing this year are Hettie Dengate, Georgia Downey, Elle Dutton, Elly Flaherty, John Goddard, Philippa Haines, Emma Hammond, Dee Howard, Valerie Knapp, Isabelle Moriarty, Elaine Partington, Adam Pink, and Veronique Pullen.

The private view is tonight (Friday, June 21) from 6pm to 9.30pm in Studio 4100 at Sussex Coast College. The exhibition will then be open from 10am to 2pm on June 22 and 10am to 6pm on June 24 and 25.
