101st Birthday celebration at RSPCA Spring Fayre

THE RSPCA held it's annual Spring Fayre at St Martha's church, Little Common on Saturday, and adding to the festivities was a very special birthday celebration for local resident Violet Monk, who reached the grand age of one hundred and one.

Violet, who was helping out at the fayre, serving on the tombola stall with daughter Iris, was presented with a bunch of flowers by Chairman of the Sussex East & Hastings branch of the RSPCA, Mary Bristow.

A resident of Little Common, avid knitter Violet has been an RSPCA volunteer, helping to raise funds for the charity for many years, and of her longevity, daughter Iris said her Mum's long life is all down to keeping active and good family stock.

Iris said: "All Mum's family have lived a long time so it must be good family genes. Mum is still very active; she loves to knit and never sits still!"

Violet was born in London, married husband Sidney and along with daughter Iris, had a son, Colin. She also has two grand-children and one great-granddaughter.

The spring fayre raised 327 for the RSPCA, and along with thanking everyone for their "wonderful support", Mary said they are desperately seeking more volunteers and would like to hear from anyone who may be interested.
