1066 anniversary: Fiery climax to Hastings Week

The fun will kick off at 11.30am with a Guy Making Workshop and storytelling at St Clements Church in High Street until 2.30pm.

A parade of Guys will line up for the Best Guys Competition on The Stade Open Space at 3pm.

There will plenty of other free activities at the Stade, with music, Norman longboats, archery displays, and skirmishes, plus a hog roast, mead, cider and more to help keep your strength up for more entertainment.

Between noon and 3pm, there will be drumming performances around the Old Town, culminating in a Norman/Saxon drum off outside the Albion (south side).

A colourful daytime fireworks display, in the style of the magnificent Spanish Mascleta, will be sure to impress those gathered at the Stade Open Space at 3.30pm.

Choose a side and make sure you have your Saxon or Norman costume at the ready for La Grande Promenade, which will be setting off from the Stade at 4pm.

The procession will head into the new town before returning, with the parade expected to end at around 5.15pm.

Guys can be carried in the procession and left at the bonfire for burning.

All are welcome to join in with the parade.

Finally, at 7.15pm, the much-awaited torchlight procession will set off from outside the pier, heading towards the Old Town via Robertson Street, Harold Place, Breeds Place, Marine Parade, All Saints Street and the High Street before returning via Breeds Place for the bonfire and fireworks on the beach.

The bonfire will be lit at 9pm, followed by what Hastings Week organisers promise to be ‘one of the most spectacular fireworks displays you’ll ever see’.

All money collected on the night will go to local charities and good causes.
