1933 MG sports car has been shortlisted for Best in Show

Thousands of classic cars are set to line up for the triumphant return of the Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance Best in Show competition at this year’s Goodwood Revival.

Entries have been flooding in with three fantastic shortlists now selected – one for each day of Revival - chosen by none other than Sir Stirling Moss, who certainly knows his classics.

Midhurst resident Simon Worte’s vehicle is one of 30 cars competing for one of the three prestigious daily “Best in Show” awards organised by top UK Insurance Broker Stewart Miller & Peter James at the Goodwood Revival Meeting on September 9, 10 and 11.

Ten cars will be displayed on each of the three days located ‘Over the Road’ at the Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance Stand - No. 369 - and all visitors will be very welcome to view them. Simon’s sports car will be displayed on September 11.

Simon’s superb J2 has enjoyed a lifetime of competition and was raced as a special in the 1960s.

Following a rebuild in 2006/7, it has achieved numerous class wins at various sprints and hill climbs.

Despite being over 80 years old, Simon believes in keeping it healthy by keeping it active.

The “Best in Show” winner each day will be presented with a magnum of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, a Goodwood Hamper, a £100 insurance voucher from Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance and, of course, Goodwood Revival 2017 tickets.

Last year’s winners included:

A 1961 Lotus Elite, owned by Adam Moran. Colin Chapman’s first Lotus production roadcar, this stunning example was purchased by Adam’s father Bill Moran in 1962 when it was just six months old.

A 1968 Triumph TR5, owned by Simon Leifers. A proven, extensive race-winner, the TR5 was re-commissioned to road-going use in 2003 and registered with the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA).

A 1963 Mk1 Lotus Cortina, owned by Paul Weston. This car was featured in Classic Ford magazine in October 2008 after being voted one of the best restorations of the year. The car was bought by Lotus Cortina Register member Paul in 2014 who had been searching for the right example for some time.
