2000 called in for meningitis vaccination

WORRIED parents have queued with their children by the hundred to ensure they received protection from the meningitis which killed a High School pupil.

The second suspected meningitis case in a week put Bexhill High School on top alert at the weekend.

Two thousand pupils and staff from the High, its nursery and nearby King Offa primary school were given antibiotics at the Gunters Lane campus after a 14-year-old High School boy was admitted to the Conquest Hospital showing the symptons of meningoccocal septicaemia.

Because of the death last Tuesday of 16-year-old schoolmate Francesca Ward, Jason Brett-Andrews was immediately put on an emergency course of antibiotics.

By morning his temperature was dropping back towards normal. He has since made a good recovery.
