800 small steps in big Toddle Waddle

There was an excellent turn-out for the third Toddle-Waddle in Alexandra Park.

The skies cleared in the afternoon to allow about 800 toddlers and families to complete three laps of the pond to raise money for their nursuries.

The day is put on by the Early Years and Child care Project in conjunction with the Hollington, East Hastings and Hastings and St Leonards Children Centres.

Alison Rudd, who organised the event said: "The idea was to get children out and about in open space.

"The event has become very big from humble beginnings."

A picnic was put on after the walk in the grounds of the park.

About 5,000 was raised.

Hastings Borough Council's Play Development helped organise the event and it was marshalled by staff from the Active Hastings team, who also organised play events.
