Two local firms have joined forces to create a unique new flavour of marmalade.
Working together, the Uckfield-based Ouse Valley Foods and Lewes-based Harveys Brewery have produced an intriguing Orange Marmalade with Ginger and Wild Hop Beer
The marmalade combines the edgy bitterness of the Seville oranges with the earthy flavours of wild hops.
The new marmalade has already been awarded a gold award at the World’s Original Marmalade Competition, held at Dalemaine Mansion in Cumbria.
Ouse Valley also received a silver award for Caribbean Lime Marmalade and a bronze award for its Cowdray Breakfast Marmalade.
Julian Warrender, founder and creative chef of Ouse Valley, said: “My team are used to my Monday morning new ideas. This time I came up with a simple and complementary combination. As much as possible, our produce comes from local growers and it is wonderful to be using a celebrated local producer.”
Adam Bagnall of Harveys added: “After a number of taste tests, the Wild Hop proved to be the perfect beer for the job, adding to this marmalade’s delicious bitter sweet style. A harmonious pairing of two celebrated Sussex producers.”
The marmalade is available through Ouse Valley Foods and Harveys Brewery’s shop in Lewes for an RRP of £4.15.
