Once inside the atmosphere turned emotional as they reacted to their individual news - some were celebrating while others looked tearful or disappointed, but always evident was the support and concern shown for each other during a difficult time.

Almost 30 students came through the door at 8am to open their letters, while others followed during the morning.

Among them was Joshua Getty who got A grades in biology, maths, chemistry and history, and commented: "I am very pleased. It is what I needed to get into medical school."

Sarah Winfield said she was "shocked" to discover she had A's in biology, chemistry and business studies even though she had been ill during exams.

Karen said: "I am absolutely delighted that so many students have achieved such outstanding success with us at Bexhill College. These results are based on an incredible amount of hard work by students, teachers and support from parents. Their achievements will provide them with a strong basis for future opportunities in a difficult recessionary climate. These young people will become excellent ambassadors for the College and for Rother and Hastings."
