A-level success at colleges

STUDENTS from Uckfield and Heathfield s Community Colleges were celebrating another year of outstanding A-level results last week.

Uckfield Community College students achieved a pass rate of over 90 per cent while students from Heathfield Community College gained a pass rate of 93 per cent.

At UCC 56 per cent of all students gained grades A to C, while at HCC exceptional results were achieved in art with 10 candidates achieving the top A grade.

Uckfield student Prasna Ray received a letter of commendation from the exam board for gaining one of the top five marks nationwide in mathematics.

She was among five students who gained at least three A grades. The others were Jenny Albone, Abigail Freestone, Catherine Sharp and Ian Wilson. Prasna and Catherine also gained a B grade in their fourth A-level subject.

UCC deputy principal Chris Howarth said: We are delighted with this set of results. We have an open entry policy for our sixth form courses and this is an exceedingly good performance for the whole ability range that we encompass. The entire management team are very proud of both our students and their teachers for these results.

Principal Craig Pamphilon added: We are all very pleased with the results which reflect the hard work we have put in as a college to ensure the highest possible achievements for individual candidates. Well over 50 per cent of our students have gained their first choice place at university.

Heathfield Community College students Matthew Mockford and Katherine Gover both achieved three As and a B in their A-level results. Meanwhile, the college s AS level were described as encouraging.

HCC head Rob Robinson said: Students and staff are extemely pleased with the A-level and AS level examination results.
