And on Thursday (April 24), members of the Littlehampton Carnival Association were honoured at Littlehampton’s annual town meeting.

The group, which organises the Littlehampton Carnival and the Christmas Fun Day, received the Group Merit Award from town mayor Joyce Bowyer.

Cllr Bowyer said: “This award goes to a group of volunteers who have organised one of the town’s biggest events for the past 40 years.

“The president has been at the helm for most of that time and the committee members have supported this group for many, many years.

“The team work tirelessly throughout the year to arrange not only the main event but the Christmas Fun Day, and accompany the girls and young ladies to other local events.”

The association’s president Freda Hughes and treasurer Lynn Martin collected the award during the award ceremony at Manor House’s New Millennium Chamber, in Church Street.

Freda said: “My poor husband Anthony has had to put up with all these girls over the years running around the garden. But he has been a great support.”

Freda also thanked the members of the carnival committee for all their dedication over the years.

This summer, the organisation will be celebrating its 40th anniversary on carnival day, July 12.
