A new initiative to help encourage an Active Rother

A NEW initiative is looking to bring together people who want to lead more active lifestyles with the organisations which can help them keep healthy.

The Active Rother campaign will demonstrate to people from any walk of life that being active is easier than they think – either through simple activities, like gardening or walking, or organised sports.

Whatever level of activity or fitness, Rother residents are invited to a series of Activity Fairs around the district to find out more.

The fairs will give visitors ideas on how to keep active and, just as importantly, where in the district they can find opportunities to take part in the activities that suit.

The first fair will take place at Bexhill Town Hall on Monday April 29.

A second will follow on Tuesday May 7 at Claverham Community College in Battle, followed by a final event at Tilling Green Community Centre in Rye on Monday May 13.

All three fairs will take place between 6-7pm.

Additionally, local sport and activity groups are being invited to attend a session earlier in the day to learn more about Active Rother’s new website.

The Active Rother programme is jointly funded by Rother District Council and East Sussex County Council.

Its ambition is to get more people, more active, more often and gain the associated social and economic benefits of having a healthy population.

In Rother, fewer than 22 per cent of the adult population currently take part in moderate physical exercise for 30 minutes at least three times a week.
