A23 hailstorm fatal crash road was not salted

Highways England has confimed it did not salt the A23 roads where a young woman lost her life in a four-car crash during a hailstorm.

Brianna Cambridge, 21, of Newhaven, who worked at OCS Group in Crawley and at Gatwick Airport, died following a crash near Pyecombe services in the northbound carriageway at about 4am on Monday (January 11).

A police spokesman said there was a hailstorm in the area at the time of the collision.

A spokesman for Highways England said the roads were not salted overnight on Sunday because the temperature had not dropped below freezing.
