Firefighters were called just after 9.30am to the transit flatbed vehicle near the Coach and Horses pub, in Patching.

They left the scene at 10am. Despite them extinguishing the flames, a spokeswoman from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the van was ‘60-per-cent destroyed’ by the fire.

The van has since been removed and the lane reopened.
