A27 study details are revealed

The Department for Transport announced last December it would fund a study to explore ways of relieving traffic congestion in the ‘A27 corridor’, but did not revealed details of the sections it would cover.

Ms Jemima Bland, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for East Worthing and Shoreham, said she had now been told in a letter from the ministry that the study would cover the A27 from its junction with the M27 in the west to the junction with the A259 at Pevensey in the east.

She said she was pleased to hear the news, but felt it did not take investigations into the road network far enough.

Ms Bland said: “I am pleased that the Department for Transport has confirmed that the A27 locally will be included and that it has noted the specific problems I have mentioned such as flooding on the road through North Lancing.

“But I am disappointed that the letter only mentions that the Highways Agency is studying the A259 east of Pevensey as part of the strategic road network.

“The A259 through Adur and Worthing is extremely congested and should be included in the study.”

Ms Bland said she would be writing a further letter, urging that the A259 through West Sussex be considered as part of the road review.
