The A272 is closed to through traffic this morning (Tuesday, February 3) due to a burst water main at Buxted.

Passers by describe water bursting out of a BT manhole.

The road was shut overnight as water had flowed onto the carriageway and frozen.

Traffic is currently backed up for up to two miles in both directions with drivers having to find alternative routes via country lanes to Framfield or Crowborough.

The closure has also had a knock-on impact on traffic entering and leaving Uckfield and access roads are gridlocked.

Buxted Primary School is also closed.

East Sussex County Council plans to update the situation at 11am.
