West Sussex County Council started work on a £153,000 scheme to improve the drainage system serving the road on January 20.

Because of the work the road will be shut between from 6am on Saturday February 15 to 5am on Monday February 17, and from 6am on Saturday February 22 to 5am on Monday February 24.

John O’Brien (Con, East Grinstead South & Ashurst Wood), deputy cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Flooding has caused problems for the road and for residents living near the A283 and we are determined to make improvements here.

“Unfortunately to install this drainage system, we have to shut the road on two separate occasions at weekends.

“We apologise for this inconvenience, but a signed diversion will be in place for both these weekends.”

The agreed diversion route will be via the B2139 Thakeham Road, Rock Road and the A24 London Road.

Work is expected to be completed in early March.
