Hot on the heels of London, Paris, Milan and New York Fashion weeks, the Udimore fashion extravaganza took place in a packed St Mary’s Community Hall on Thursday, March 23.

The event was organised by Nadia Florence-Marshall and other Friends of St Mary’s Church to raise funds for the upkeep of the fabric of St Mary’s Church.

Nadia opened the show by thanking everyone for supporting the Friends and described some of the work the committee undertake.

Fist on the cat walk was the Miss Captain range, described as ‘very comfortable, practical and affordable’. Compared by Michele Duke, the clothes were modelled by Udimore village residents Liz Turgoose, Leonie Wheeler, Celia Langrish and Gill Rothery.

Nadia says modelling clothes and hats in a room full of people can be quite nerve-wracking. “It is not easy walking through a room full of friends and family,” she said.

“But all the models throughout the evening did remarkably well and looked great!”

The second half of the evening presented clothes from new local boutique Kontrast of Rye. Their models were Susan Taber (Udimore), Beverley Pritchard (Ore) and Heathfield residents Jilly Mercer and Hannah Cornwall.

Nadia said: “Susie Jaggs and Irena Stout put together a stunning range of clothes and Susie compared the collection.”

The evening ended with Herald and Heart Hats. The models were Jurgita Babianskaite (Udimore) and Beverley Pritchard, who Nadia says had to do a very quick change and dash to the other end of the hall, adding: “Even I couldn’t resist modelling one of the gorgeous bespoke hats! Beverley was tall enough to model the fabulous ‘Four Weddings’ hat bringing a fabulous evening to a close.

“The raffle was amazing with contributions from residents of Udimore village, Miss Captain, Contrast of Rye, Herald and Heart and The George Hotel, Rye. Thank you very much.

The Fabulous Fashion Show attracted over sixty guests and Nadia says the event raised an absolutely ‘fabulous’ £651 before expenses, adding: “A big thank you from the committee to all those who attended, those who provided their collections. The models, and all those lovely ladies who made the scrummy food for the evening.”
