Abduction attempt on 14 year old girl

POLICE are hunting a man who tried to abduct a 14 year old girl in Rye last week.

The incident happened last Thursday evening between 9.15pm - 9.45pm as she walked along Kings Avenue,

She was approached by a large man with a beard who got out of a dark coloured car.

He grabbed her by her shoulders and then the front of her jacket but she managed to break free. Her attacker then fled to his car before driving off.

Detective Inspector Ian Williams of Rother CID said: “We are asking for the public’s help in tracing this man. I am appealing to anyone who may know anything about who this individual is, or have suspicions about someone who may be involved, to contact the police.”

“I would like to reassure the community that this type of incident is very rare. Sussex Police takes any report of abduction very seriously and we are continuing with our enquiries to track down the individual responsible.”

The suspect is described by witnesses as being a white man aged between 20 and 30, of large build and with a beard. He was wearing a black leather jacket and baseball cap and was driving a dark coloured car, possibly blue.
