Daniel Hatley, who has been at Ark William Parker Academy since 2013 resigned to take up a new role at a school closer to his home in Surrey.

In a letter sent to parents on January 14, Mr Hatley wrote: “Moving on is always a difficult decision, and in my case, doubly so, as I feel Ark William Parker is a special place and I’ve found working here to be extremely fulfilling.

“Together we’ve accomplished a great deal over the past few years - our GCSE results are much improved and our recent Ofsted inspection has led to the school officially coming out of special measures.”

In 2015, 50 per cent of students at Ark William Parker Academy, achieved at least 5 A*-Cs including English and maths at GSCE, compared to 44 per cent the year before.

Mr Hatley said at the time the results showed students had “a renewed sense of pride and purpose”.

Describing Hastings as “a wonderful community”, he offered thanks and appreciation to students, staff and parents who had supported him during his time at the academy.

He added: “I’m confident that, with the continued hard work of everyone here and with the support of Ark and the school’s Governing body, Ark William Parker will continue to progress and achieve great things.”

Mr Hatley has served as interim headteacher, deputy principal and principal during his time at the academy, and will remain in his post until the end of the summer term.

An academy spokesman said Ark was in the process of recruiting an executive principal, while Helenswood would be led by current principal Lucy Monk.

Mrs Monk said: “Daniel’s commitment to, and focus on, fostering academic excellence within a caring school environment has been a real asset to Ark William Parker Academy. He has been a fantastic colleague to work with and an outstanding principal.
