Access to Activities for youngsters

SCHOOLS throughout Bexhill are trying to encourage students to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Youngsters can sign up to clubs and events run by local providers through Access to Activities '“ A2A funding.

This encourages healthy lifestyle choices for young people and the development of wider social communication skills.

So far, students have taken part in gymnastics, swimming, dance, horse riding, gym membership and martial arts.

Bexhill High School has also set up a number of provisions that allow groups to run services using their facilities, including drama workshops and creative writing projects.

Trudy Hillman, A2A Co-ordinator for Bexhill High, said, "A2A funding has enabled us to access many provisions for many students, in particular those who may have difficulties accessing clubs because of funding issues.

'Not only does the scheme enable young people to participate in positive activities whilst not in school, including at weekends and during the holiday periods, but we see their confidence and motivation levels increase in school as a result of them learning new skills."
