Ackroyd exhibitionis a real coupe forRye Art Gallery

RYE Art Gallery has landed an exhibition of work by one the country’s leading print artists.

“The Furthest Lands” by Norman Ackroyd RA opens at the gallery on May 18 at 11am.

It comprises hauntingly beautiful etchings from his travels in some of the most remote parts of the British Isles.

Norman Ackroyd’s work can be found in several British and American galleries, and in the collections of major museums including the Tate, the British Museum and the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

Ackroyd attended Leeds College of Art from 1957–61 and the Royal College of Art, London from 1961–64, where he studied under Julian Trevelyan.

He was elected to the Royal Academy of Art in 1988 and appointed Professor of Etching, University of the Arts, in 1994.

Two more selling exhibitions are opening in the Gallery at the same time.

‘RSA Posters from the Past’ is a selling exhibition of posters from the Rye Society of Artists hugely popular annual exhibitions from previous years.

The other exhibition ‘The Art of the Linocut’ showcases work by Richard Bawden, Paddy Hamilton and Nick Morley.
