Across the county, the fallen are honoured

People across West Sussex turned out on Friday and Sunday to remember those who selflessly gave their lives in the two world wars and more recent conflicts.

The county's town centres came to a standstill at 11am on Friday (November 11) as people observed the two'“minute silence.

A moving Remembrance Service, attended by more than 400 people took place in winter sunshine at Arundel's war memorial on Sunday (November 13), organised and attended by members of Arundel's British Legion branch.

Other wreaths were laid by Councillor Don Ayling on behalf of Arun District Council, the Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs of Arundel, the Probus club, Arundel and Barnham District Lions group, Sussex Police Downs Division and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The services were represented by the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment and The Royal Sussex Regimental Association led by Barry Toone who also laid wreaths.

Wreaths were laid by pupils at the town's two primary schools, St Philip's RC and St Nicholas CoE. They spent last week learning about the significance of Remembrance Day. The town's scouts, guides, brownies and cubs also attended the service.
