Action on drugs menace

ADUR'S anti-drugs workers are urging people in a new poster campaign not to bury their heads in the sand over the problem.

People are being urged to call the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555111, to report any signs of drug-dealing in Adur.

Communities Against Drugs worker Norma Buss said the biggest problem locally was cannabis, with many young people believing it was now legal.

Mrs Buss said the second-biggest problem was heroin, with increasing numbers also using crack cocaine.

Mrs Buss said Crimestoppers was free and calls were not traced or taped.

Any information would be appreciated, including addresses of where it appeared that dealing was going on, car registration numbers and areas where people were gathering to take or deal in drugs.

Adur's Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership co-ordinator, Graham White, said: "What we are looking for is an increase in intelligence being passed on to Crimestoppers, who will be able to pass it on to the police, who will target the problems in particular areas."
