Action talks after yobs destroy car

A car written off by yobs sparked a meeting among Felpham residents about anti-social behaviour.

The Fiat was destroyed by the hooligans who pushed it over and ensured all its windows were smashed in the attack.

The vehicle had to be towed away and scrapped following the violent incident in the Snook's Corner area.

The Friday night attack earlier this month prompted the Snook's Corner Community Group to organise last Saturday'smeeting.

Around 30 homeowners turned up at the Felpham Village Memorial Hall. They agreed that group chairman Fred Parsons should contact the police and Arun District Council's community safety officers to attend a further meeting.

This would give them the chance to explain what could be done to cut the number of incidents involving criminal damage and louttish behaviour.

Mr Parsons said he would be contacting the organisations in the next two weeks.

He also arranged for a leaflet to be distributed at the meeting with contact details for the police and council and defining anti-social behaviour.

'We do not want people taking the law into their own hands,' he explained. 'We have had a number of incidents in the past few months.

'Some residents have been complaining about it. The wrecking of the car proved to be the final straw.'

Other incidents in the Sea Road and Longbrook area included people drinking on the streets late at night, arguing, swearing, shouting and fighting among themselves as well as causing general damage.

'We may be no worse than other areas,' explained Mr Parsons, 'but we are a bit of a late night cut-through for those who have come along the promenade from Bognor town centre after their nights out.'

The residents affected by the bad behaviour had contacted the police after each incident, he added.
