Lillian moved to Lancing after the death of her husband in 1988, to be near to her daughter, Pauline.

Her other daughter, Janet, came all the way over from New Zealand to visit Lillian for her special day.

Lillian, a member of Lancing Self Help Group for the Blind, has six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who call her Little Nanny, as she is so small.

Lillian thanks the friends and family who celebrated her 100th with kind thoughts and beautiful gifts and helped to make the day so special.

Adur Council leader Mike Mendoza, who attended the bash at Seaview Court, said it had been an absolute pleasure.

“Lillian is an incredibly agile and independent lady who was totally unaware of the party planned for her,” said Cllr Mendoza.

“Unbelievably, I was told that Lillian had visited her family in New Zealand only a couple of years ago.”

He gave Lillian flowers and a card from Adur Council, and she also had a traditional card from the Queen.
