Active pupils earn a trip to meet David Beckham

The children took part in the Sainsbury’s Active Kids Challenge and completed 24 activities which took them to the final where they met the footballer and paralympian, both Active Kids Ambassadors.

The challenge ran from February to May this year and was focused around games, skill, food and a special David Beckham one-minute challenge.

The group travelled to London on October 4 to the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Meridian Way, Edmonton, London, for a training session with 170 other young people from schools or group across the UK.

The event also included shuttle runs and healthy lunchbox hints and tips.

Parents Mrs Kisby and Mrs Bennett, who attended, said: “It was an amazing day for the children to meet David and Ellie, two sporting icons who they all look up to.

Sports leaders Lucy Ayres and Arthur Tredgold, said: “We had great fun taking part in the Active Kids Challenge earlier this year and it was really inspiring to see David and Ellie in action.”

Three students who went along to the training day, Harry Kisby, Minnie White and Tamsin Wheatley, said: “We really learnt a lot and it’s certainly an experience we’ll never forget.”

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Ambassador David Beckham said: “It was brilliant to meet the children from Shoreham Beach Primary School and to see so many young people genuinely inspired to get involved in sport and activity following last summer.

“I’m passionate about inspiring kids to try a new sport and that’s exactly what Active Kids is all about, encouraging kids to try, and hopefully really enjoy, something new.”

The Shingle Road school was one of 34 groups or schools across the country which took part on the day.

This year, the Active Kids scheme has delivered equipment and events to schools, clubs and organisations, throughout the country.

The scheme currently has 52,000 registered organisations.
