Young people in Hailsham can enjoy a wide range of activities on weekday afternoons throughout the summer at the Square Youth Café.
Hailsham Town Council’s flagship youth facility is situated at 1 Market Square and is open for youngsters aged 11 to 13.
The Square Youth Café team has organised a varied line-up of free and low cost activities designed to liven up the summer holidays, take young people on various recreational outings and encourage even more through the doors of the youth café. Activities taking place include craft and filming, barbeques and Ready Steady Cook sessions where young people can learn how to prepare Community Chef food recipes.
A variety of outings have been organised including roller-skating at My Skateworld in Eastbourne, freshwater fishing at Mushroom Farm and games on Hailsham Recreation Ground. Afternoon sessions at the Square Youth Café take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 3.15pm to 5pm (except for fishing trips which extend to 6pm). The Square Youth Cafe evening sessions are also free to enter, cater for young people aged 13 to 17, and take place Monday to Friday from 7.15 to 9.30pm.
Andy Joyes, Youth Project Coordinator at the town council, said: “The Square Youth Café aims to provide a service to young people regardless of background, gender or culture and they can expect a safe, supportive, fun and non–judgmental environment. We wanted this summer to be productive and entertaining for young people and, without these activities, many of them would have very little to do during the long summer holidays.”
