Students were encouraged to work outside of their comfort zone and challenge themselves both physically and mentally. Team work was important with all the activities and support and encouragement were vital ingredients for every task.

Emma Green, assistant headteacher, said: “It was fantastic group of students who took part this year who approached every activity with enthusiasm and determination. Their team work was brilliant and the positive feedback we have received from all the students who attended has been phenomenal.”

Rhys Nicholas, a Year Nine student, said: “Lodge Hill was a physically and mentally demanding trip but also very rewarding. I am proud of how much I achieved, in such a short space of time. An example of a mentally tough activity for me would be the ‘Code and Ciphers’ challenge. This was where we had to figure out various pieces of code using numbers and letters. This challenged our mental determination. There were multiple times where I was close to giving up but I kept on trying and I was really proud when we finished it as a group. It was a great trip.”

Carol Thompson, a Year Eight student, said: “The trip was challenging but enjoyable. We were encouraged to work with people who we wouldn’t normally work with and help each other when we found the work hard. Personally, Lodge Hill helped me get over my fear of public speaking as everyone was supportive, even if you messed up.”
