Additional train at Cooksbridge a boon - but service ‘markedly inferior’

Campaigners have welcomed an additional stopping train at Cooksbridge Railway Station.

From January 5 2015, Southern has agreed the weekday 20.47 from London Victoria will call at the village station, arriving at around 22.50.

Cooksbridge Station Partnership said: “This is a great boost for residents and others who use the station, providing a very useful additional option for travel home in the evening.

“This is a second success for the Cooksbridge Station Partnership which has been campaigning energetically for many years for a better service – in 2011 Southern agreed to stop the 21.47 from Victoria. However, there are still no stopping trains during the middle of the day, nor at the weekend.

“This service is markedly inferior to other stations along the route and totally inadequate for the station’s catchment area. The Station Partnership will therefore be continuing the campaign with the objective of securing the required seven day a week hourly service.”
