Adult social care cuts: Voluntary services

East Sussex County Council’s budget for these contracts currently stands at £2m but the local authority wants to cut this total by £1.6m.

Some of the services are funded solely by Adult Social Care, while others also receive funding from other sources.

Among the services under threat of losing council funding are some provided by Autism Sussex.

The Battle-based charity offers Pathways to Employment, a scheme offering volunteering, training and work opportunities funded to the tune of £20,000 from the adult social care budget, as well as an online support forum, funded with £5,000 of county council money.

Culture Shift, which connects people with learning difficulties and autism with arts and cultural activities in Hastings and Rother, could see its Arts Connect 2 project at risk as it relies on ESCC for £26,000 of funding.

Hastings-based Project Artworks, an artist-led organisation which works with children, young people and adults who have complex needs, could lose £14,000 of ESCC funding for its studio provision.

Other local charities which could be hit by funding cuts include the Alzheimer’s Society (based in Battle), the Hastings Advice and Representation Centre, Recovery Partners (Hastings and Bexhill), Seaview Project (St Leonards), Southdown Housing (St Leonards), Together (Hastings and Bexhill), Age UK East Sussex, Marsham Older People’s Project (Fairlight), the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre, which runs a mobile service around rural Rother, the Stroke Association and East Sussex Vision Care.
