Adur Festival: Great art and culture for everyone

This money has enabled the festival to offer even more great art and culture for everyone in Adur, as well as visitors into the district.

It has supported the festival to increase its marketing and online reach, employ a co-ordinator to lead on programming curated events, as well as pull together the raft of registered community events.

Adur Festival’s current aims are to:-

• Foster innovation and creativity.

• Generate a greater sense of community in Adur, by building bridges between culture, education and business.

• Benefit the reputation, economy and regeneration of Adur.

In 2016 and 2017, the festival will focus on the following areas for development:-

• Embedding high quality arts activity in the outlying areas of Adur such as Fishersgate, Southwick and Lancing with a programme of workshops and activity leading up to, during and post festival.

• Securing larger sums of funding earlier to secure the future of the festival in 2017 and beyond.

• Developing audiences within LSOAs, working closely with the West Sussex County Council Think Family initiative and the community development team at Adur Council.

In 2016, the festival has so far supported more than 300 local schoolchildren in workshops with Creative Waves.

We will also be working with performance-parkour team Urban Playground to offer up to 60 local young people the chance to take part in free workshops with this internationally-revered company.

For many of these young people, it will be the first time they have engaged with the festival and for some it will be the first time they have engaged with quality arts activity right on their doorstep.

Fostering innovation and creativity, including in our local children and young people, is something we are very passionate about. Long may it continue, with the support of the Arts Council and our other supporters.

Shoreham Port is one of our supporters in 2016 and has been for a number of years. Its vision is to become the preferred south coast port for short sea traffic and marine-related projects as well as landlord for specialist sites, while being at the heart of the community and a key local economy driver.

An undisputed iconic feature on the south coast, the port is most certainly an intrinsic part of the local community, supporting many grassroots local initiatives via its corporate social responsibility efforts.

This year, the port is supporting the festival’s Alternative Village Green Day on Saturday, June 18, in Southwick, where we hope more than 500 local people will immerse themselves in high-quality arts activity, and it’s all free.

It is just over a week until the festival kicks off on June 4. There are more than 50 events to keep you occupied! We look forward to seeing you there.
