Adur schools latest

FRESHBROOK First School in Lancing will close as part of a shake-up of first and middle schools in Adur.

Yesterday, West Sussex County Council announced its final decisions on which schools in the district will close and which will be merged into primary schools under the major reorganisation of education in Adur.

Freshbrook First School in Grinstead Lane will close and merge with Thornberry Middle School on its site in Freshbrook Road, Lancing.

A children's centre will be built on the Freshbrook First School to provide nursery education and support and advice to parents.

The other changes for Lancing and Sompting will be: Willows First and Oakfield Middle schools in Irene Avenue, Lancing, being merged into a primary, North Lancing First and Middle School becoming a primary and Sompting's Templars First and White Styles Middle schools in White Styles Road being made into a primary.

Earlier this year, the county council approved a system of new primary schools in Adur, with the age of transfer to secondary school being changed to 11 from 12.
