Advertise youselves, groups urged

GROUPS holding leisure events in Uckfield have been urged to advertise their functions more energetically.

GROUPS holding leisure events in Uckfield have been urged to advertise their functions more energetically.

Uckfield Town Co-ordinator Barry Knights said society, clubs and organisations in the town failed to promote themselves as vigorously as those in neighbouring towns. However, he offered groups a free listing on the town's website.

Mr Knights said: 'I regularly scan the leisure events listing in our local Sussex Express, just to see what if anything would be worth a visit to our town, in exactly the same way as a tourist or resident of our town or nearby village would do. Such information is almost non-existent by comparison to other local towns.

'For example, Lewes last week highlighted 18 assorted happenings, ranging from club meetings, music, dance, and even kickboxing! Uckfield, on the other hand, admits to two events, and they are in the village of Hadlow Down.

'Uckfield has a multitude of societies, clubs and associations, so my question is: why don't they expose themselves in order to give the community as a whole a chance to come to join in and enjoy?'

Mr Knights urged groups and societies to add a free listing on to the town's growing website, Uckfield-Town.co.uk. To advertise your function in the Sussex Express, ring Sandy on 01273 480601 (extension 124).
