African ensemblespice up Festival

The five day Festival takes place in venues across the historic town spanning the end of August bank holiday weekend from August 22 - 26.

Confirmed is the inclusion of Kasaï Masaï as part of the festival World Music programme, who will be performing at St Mary’s Church, Rye on the afternoon of Monday August.

Kasaï Masaï is a five piece outfit, consisting of djembe, guitar, saxophone, bass, and drum. They will be joined by female dancers.

The bands ancestral music which has been passed on from generation to generation, is rooted in the healing power of percussion and chanting and combined with the majestic sound of the Congolese folk guitar.

Kasaï Masaï is also presenting a special drum and dance workshop prior to their main performance and the workshop is included within the overall ticket price.

“This will be a really fun family event,” said Festival Director Ian Bowden, “Kasaï Masaï are a powerful, vibrant music ensemble and will be the perfect way to end the festival on a real high”.

Tickets are priced at £12 Adults, £9 concessions and £4 children under 12.

A stellar Jazz Nights Series has just been announced at the Mermaid Inn, Rye which take place on Thursday 22nd and Sunday 25th August.

Free music events will also take place at the Butter Market, the George in Rye Courtyard and throughout the streets and locations within Rye.

Free open air music performances will take place at the Ypres, Castle Inn from 3pm – 9pm. Saturday 24
