Man suffers ‘severe burns’ after Aston Martin bursts into flames in Wannock

A man suffered severe burns after a car burst into flames in Wannock last night (May 28).

Emergency services rushed to Jevington Road after the vehicle – reportedly an Aston Martin DB9 – caught alight after colliding with a gate just after 6pm.

An air ambulance was called and landed nearby.

Sussex Police said the driver, a 60-year-old man from Brighton, suffered severe burns and was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment.

He was later transferred to Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.

The passenger, a 53-year-old woman also from Brighton, suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Police say investigations are ongoing to determine whether the fire started before or after the collision.

No other vehicles were involved, Sussex Police said.

The road was closed for some time as the incident was dealt with and investigation work carried out by police.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said one fire engine was called to the scene at 6.26pm.

A spokesperson said, “The air ambulance attended due to one person receiving injuries.

“The fire investigation concluded there had been accidental ignition from a vehicle collision.”
