Air show success

THOUSANDS of people were at Shoreham Airport this weekend for the annual Shoreham Air Show in aid of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA).

The crowds saw displays from aircraft new and old, including the Typhoon Eurofighter, one of the most advanced planes on earth.

"It's exceeded all expectations," organiser Don Bean MBE told the Herald. "I think we have had a very good year."

Mr Bean said they will not know for several weeks how much money the show has raised. Over the years, the event has raised 900,000 for the charity, which helps former RAF servicemen and their families and organisers are hoping to bring that total will go over the 1 million mark after the 2005 show.

The event started on Saturday with a fly-past by the legendary Red Arrows. This was only the second time the Red Arrows had appeared at Shoreham and poignantly, it was also 25 years since one of their planes crashed in Brighton.
