Airline staff say a sad farewell

Senior cabin crew employed by British Airways at Gatwick have said a sad farewell after a restructure by the airline.

Staff say they they were asked to take a pay cut or face redundancy back in October. Those opting for redundancy, many of whom had worked for BA for more than 20 years, were employed until the end of December and met last week for a final goodbye.

A British Airways spokeswoman said: “After a long consultation with cabin crew, we made changes to ensure our operation is sustainable, competitive and crucially will deliver a great service to our customers.

“A small number of our colleagues decided to opt for voluntary redundancy and we wish them well for the future.”

She declined to say how many jobs had been affected.
