Helen Christmas took one of the prizes in the Write Across Sussex Short Story Competition.

She received her prize – an anthology of the 11 top stories signed by the judges – from one of them, best-selling author Kate Mosse.

Helen said: “It was a joy to be selected as a winner of this competition and I especially enjoyed meeting the judges.

“For anyone who enjoys writing, this was a great accolade.”

The competition was organised by Observer newspapers and the independent authors’ group, CHINDI. It was open to writers of all ages.

As well as Ms Mosse, the author of Labyrinth, the competition’s other judges included Peter Lovesey, an award-winning crime writer, and Lis Norton, a children’s author who lives in Fontwell.

The competition was launched last autumn by CHINDI. The group of authors organises promotional events and book fairs for independent self-published authors.
